In November 1993 Development Studio 5 (AKA, The Kojima Clan) was formed when Hideo Kojima lead the department at the Kobe office of KONAMI.

3 Years later in April Development Studio 5 went on to estabilish Konami Computer Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd., which released such games as Zone of the Enders and the original Metal Gear Solid. The Kojima Clan moved their headquarters then to Ebisu Garden Place in Tokyo (after a devestating Kobe earthquake that forced them to move office).

A total of 6 years later, the Kojima Clan moved to Roppongi Hills after another relocation. It was from here where they released ZOE2: The Second Runner aswell as Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater and Boktai.

Another 2 years later, the entire foundation on which Kojima Productions was based on was made. After Konami Computer Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd., rejoined the KONAMI infastructue. This was the basis of the setup of Kojima Productions, which was co-founded along with Konami Corporation GS Company. A year later, a takeover resulting from a corporate seperation of KONAMI's digital entertainment division, Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd was estabilished.

In KONAMI, there are several divisions, ranging from the Game Software Division, which produced the MGS games and Word Soccer Winning Eleven, the Toy and Hobby group who made action figures and other toys. The Amusement group, which developed arcade games. The Online Company which developed online games and cell phone software and the Multimedia Company which published strategy guides and manuals. Kojima Productions in a sense. Is all of these combined into one department.

Kojima Productions today is slated to release Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots for the PS3 in 2007 (and rumoured to be released on the 7/7/7, the anniversary of the original Metal Gear release for the MSX in Japan) and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Op's for the PSP this Winter. It is also set to release MGS3 Subsistence and MGS Digital Graphic Novel in Europe.
