MGS MGS2: Sons of Liberty MGS3: Snake Eater MGS4

Time flies by fast doesn’t it? It’s hard to believe that this September 18th marks the one year anniversary of this site opening. MGS:TUS has gone though a lot to get where it is right now and it would not have been possible without the strong support from our visitors. I wish there was some way we could reward all our visitors for supporting this site, but unfortunately we lack the time and resources to repay all our supporters. So instead we are providing you with an opportunity to earn some modest prizes we are offering in this contest.

To put it bluntly this contest is about writing an article about any subject of your choice as long as it deals with Metal Gear series in someway. You can take any aspect of Metal Gear Series and discuss about it. So in other words if you want to write an article about parallel character relations in all Metal Gear games then go for it. Or if you want to write about how detailed Eva’s breast physics were in MGS3, you are more than welcome to do so. In fact try to be as creative as possible when it comes to choosing a subject to write about in the article. Anyone can write a character or story analysis, but only a creative individual can pull off an entertaining article about why Raiden being naked at end of MGS2 is an allegory to the shallow reality we live in.

The key elements we are looking for in these articles are:

- Good spelling, grammar and structure: Self explanatory for most part. Little mistakes here and there is no big deal, but massive amounts of grammar/spelling mistakes can cost you. Also proper structuring of the paragraphs and the information is important.

- Creativity: This mainly deals with what subject you choose to write about and how creative the choice is. This also applies to how creatively well written the paper is.

- Entertainment Value: This is not a school report/homework and the article should not sound like one. Your article must be able to keep the readers entertained/interested in the subject you are talking about. This somewhat ties with creativity because interest in the article has lot to do with the way the paper is written and what the subject is.

- Informative: The article must try to inform the readers about something new from Metal Gear Series. In other words just listing all the equipment in a metal gear game would not be considered informative. Talking about there origins and reasons they might have been in the game is informative. But what exactly is informative in an article is somewhat subjective for each article. Personal reflections on a game/idea or opinions can be considered informative too.

The articles will be rated on a 40 point scale for the aforementioned criteria by a group of judges who will not be participating in this contest. So what exactly is an article you ask? It’s a nonfiction form of composition in paragraph structure written to either inform or get an opinion across to the readers. Check out this article to get an idea of how they look like.

The prizes for the contest are:

1st Place - Worlds of Power: Metal Gear Novel
This is one of the little known collectors item for the Metal Gear Series. This book is part of the Worlds of Power series (the MG book being #2 of the series) started in late 80s, which were stories based off popular Nintendo games back then. The story in this book has little to do with the actual plot of Metal Gear. The author based the book loosely off the NES MG manual which itself was a horrible translation from the original MSX manual. Needless to say this copy is not in mint/new condition due to its old age, but it’s in very good condition for a 15 year old book.
2nd Place - Zone of the Enders: Idolo (DVD)
This original animated video (OAV), commonly referred to as Zone of the Enders 2167 in Japan is a 2001 released anime about the development of a new orbital frame (named Idolo) in a hidden laboratory in Mars with hopes of using it to revolt against Earth’s oppressive control over them. This story serves as a back drop for the mysteries of Metatron power and Earth's behavior towards colony planets presented in ZOE videogames. This anime is a prequel to the events taken placed in the ZOE games. This DVD is Region 1 encoded (US & Canada viewing) and has English and Japanese dubbing opinion. Brand new and is the NTSC release.

3rd Place - MGS:TUS Media Disc
This disc is a data CD-R/DVD-R we will be creating and will contain all kinds of Kojima related goodies in it. First and foremost it will have all the high resolution press released artwork and screenshots we have access to. It will also contain rare videos and music clips from Kojima related works. And finally it will contain all the images presented in our gallery section so you can store all those screens and artwork on your PC and look at them at your leisure.

Pavel (Otacon): In my mind, Metal Gear Solid: The Unofficial Site was "Metal Gear Dojo" in the beginning. I had planned to buy the domain www.metalgeardojo.com (inspired by Shenmue Dojo and FFOnline) and make the website only in Bulgarian. The original design and the concept didn't turn out as well as expected, so I gave up on that idea.

After I quit working on Planet MGS, I contacted Ramesh(finalfantasy7) as he was one of my favorite MGS fan and was a respected member on the IGN-MGS and GameFaqs-MGS boards, and we both discussed on making a Metal Gear Site. Putting together our ideas the first version of MGS: The Unofficial Site was created.

The website turned out as well as we expected since many people were anticipating MGS3: Snake Eater release and later on, we had some memorable achievements. We were the first site to confirm that Big Boss is indeed the main character in MGS3 and had the privilege of having the first internet review of MGS3 in the world. I also had the honor of promoting the PAL release of MGS3 and MGS: TUS in the Bulgarian’s most popular videogame TV show.

Now, with the version 2.0 of the site and the MGS4 confirmation, we hit up to 6000 unique visitors a day, but TUS would have never been the same without the MGS fans support. Thanks!
